Birthday Bash

Last weekend was my birthday so My brother ans some friends of mine decided to go to Wendover and test our luck. It turned out to be a great trip as I won over 500 dollars, the most I have taken from a casino. We stayed at the Rainbow casino for free cause one of my friends is a frequent visitor who spends a lot of money.
My friend that i'm taking about is actually a defensive lineman who plays for the Denver Broncos. He doesn't get in the games very often at all. He is mostly a practice squad player but he has still seen some live action.

There he is my long time friend Sealver. It's great to look back and see where he came from to where he is now. I don't think I have ever seen anybody work as hard as him in my life. His background wasn't the best, he was always made fun of when we were kids for being fat. Just goes to show you what can be accoplished if you have the right desire make your dreams come true.
Sealver has been an inspiration to me and it makes me feel good to see him succeed. I think that by getting into teaching we will be able to see some of our students do great things and feel the same kind of gratitude. Teaching is going to put me in the position to help kid chase their goals that come from all different kinds of backgrounds. It is going to be a challenge but one that I look forward to because of people like my buddy Sealver.

  1. That is pretty cool that you have a friend on the Denver Broncos team. My brother would be so jealous, because he loves them so much! So that is way awesome. But I really agree with what you said about being a teacher and helping students to be able to chase their goals even from all the different backgrounds they come from. I don't think all of my teachers that I had as a student really realize what a huge impact they have made on me and how they helped shape me into the person that I am today. I think that it is really important to keep that focus and allow students to explore and eventually achieve their goals.

  2. Like Abby, I appreciated this posting. I think that different students will respond to different kinds of motivation. Obviously, one important form of motivation will be to allow students to experience success and growth in their physical abilities....for instance, it will be very gratifying for students to be able to lift more weights by the end of your gym class than they could before your gym class started.

I think that different students are motivated in different ways. For me, I was always a reading nerd and I loved inspirational stories about people who overcame the odds. I think that some students might be motivated if you had health magazines, biographies, and other texts related to health available to them. For instance, a lot of coaches have written inspirational books on how the principles of sports can be applied to the principles of healthy living. Some of your students might also eat that stuff up, like I would have, and that could be a means for motivating them as well.

Thanks for your posting! Glad you were so successful in Wendover!
